The Liver and Pancreas Cancer Surgery Team is pleased to welcome Dr. Julie Leal as our new Clinical Associate.
Dr. Leal is a fellowship trained Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon. She completed both medical school and general surgical residency training at the Foothills Medical Center, University of Calgary. It was here she realized a true passion for the study and management of liver, pancreas and biliary disease. As a consequence, she went on to complete a clinical research fellowship with the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery group at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She then went on to complete her Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery fellowship at Stanford University in California. After her time in the United States she returned to Canada and helped to set up a Hepatopancreatobiliary Service in the province of New Brunswick. She now returns to her home province of Ontario and will be a valuable addition to the HPB team at UHN. Dr. Leal’s research interests lie in the area of clinical outcomes for liver/bile duct/pancreas cancer surgery, disparities in health care delivery and health economics/policy.
