It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Dr. Ian McGilvray as Research Director for the Multi-Organ Transplant Program.  Ian brings to the position a wealth of research experience, understanding, and enthusiasm for the potential of transplant related research to positively influence all areas of medicine.  Ian studied medicine at McGill University, graduating in 1993. He entered the General Surgery training program at the University of Toronto that same year. During his residency he undertook graduate studies in Dr. Ori Rotstein’s laboratory, and obtained a PhD in Cell Biology. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2001. After a clinical fellowship in Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery at Toronto General Hospital, he began his appointment at University Health Network in 2003. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. His clinical focus is devoted to transplantation, with an interest in complex hepatobiliary oncology. His research centers on diseases of the liver, particularly immunobiology of the liver, and the use of nanomedicine-based therapeutics in liver disease.  He also has an active interest in utilizing new technologies for teaching and education.   Please join me in welcoming Dr. Ian McGilvray into his new role within the Multi-Organ Transplant Program.

Best regards,

Atul Humar
